Product description: PLA Filament - 1.75 mm - 10 meters
PLA stands for Polylatic Acid, a material made from biodegradable raw materials. The material is therefore the most environmentally friendly option if you are looking for new filaments for your 3D printer or 3D pen.
About PLA filaments
PLA melts at a relatively low temperature (180 ~ 220 °C) and is therefore very user-friendly. Drawings that you make with PLA using a 3D pen have a nice glossy layer with this filament.
Please note: not all 3D pens are suitable for using PLA filaments. Before buying, check carefully which filaments you need. All 3D pens by 3Dandprint work with PLA and ABS.
3D printing with PLA
How does printing with PLA filaments work? When 3D printing with PLA, you need to heat the material to an average of 'only' 200°C. At this temperature, the material melts and you can create three-dimensional objects from it. It is 100% safe and no harmful substances are released during the melting process.
PLA is mainly used for creative projects and is very suitable for fine and accurate work. The material has a high density, but after processing it is slightly more brittle than ABS. Because PLA is made of environmentally friendly materials, such as corn oil or sugar cane, it is a sustainable choice. And, not unimportantly, working with PLA is also pleasant for the nose, because the melting process gives off a pleasant sweetish smell and not a plastic smell.
But beware: objects made from PLA cannot withstand high temperatures. For example, if you make a flower pot and put it in the window frame in the middle of summer, there is a good chance that it will melt after a while.
Advantages of PLA
- Relatively low melting temperature and therefore quick to work with
- Nice shiny effect
- Good for post-processing
- Gives off a slightly sweet smell when printed
- Suitable for creative use
- Recyclable material and therefore environmentally friendly
Frequently asked questions about PLA Filament - 1.75 mm - 10 meters
PLA is green, environmentally friendly, biodegradable and requires less heat and thus less energy to melt. Moreover, because of the low temperature, it is easier to use. So, in all aspects it is positive and in our eyes the best kind of filament.
The 3D pen is suitable for ABS, PETG and PLA. It is possible to use ABS, PETG and PLA filament interchangeably. Before you change filament, we recommend you to empty the 3D printer pen first. Introducing a new type of filament before the old one has been used up can cause a blockage.
*We advise to use PLA because it is biologically responsible and works best.
The filament that comes out of the 3D printer pen is pretty hot. The filament can be up to 245 degrees! However, the filament cools down again within 2 to 3 seconds.
No, unfortunately it is not possible to use used filament again. Once the filament has been heated, you can no longer use the filament. This is because the filament has melted and therefore no longer fits in the pen.
10 metres of filament is fine for 3D pens, but less suitable for 3D printers. For 3D printers you choose filament that is on a spool, so that you can hang it on your printer. In addition, 10 meters is quite short for printers.
Unused filament can be recycled. If you wish to dispose of unused filament, please observe the environmental legislation in force in your country for the collection and recycling of plastics.
Used filament, once cooled, can be disposed of with normal household waste.
There are three types of filament that you can use for the 3D pen from 3Dandprint. These are the ABS, PETG and PLA filaments of 1.75 mm. These filaments are available at various shops and can also be found in our webshop.
